OPPOSE:

    Abortion Related Bills:

    • HB3489 Passed House and Senate – Waiting for Governor’s signature or veto – Redefines the “practice of pharmacy” so that a pharmacist can assess and consult with a patient for the purpose of dispensing emergency contraception, otherwise known as the morning-after pill, an abortifacient, which could also be paid for by tax dollars through Medicaid.
    • HB3709 Passed House and Senate – Waiting for Governor’s signature or veto – Requires public universities with student health services to provide access to health providers to prescribe contraception and medication abortion.
    Education Related Bills:

    • SB1560Passed House and Senate – Waiting for Governor’s signature or veto – Requires the Illinois State Board of Education to implement annual mental health screenings for students in grades 3–12. While the bill includes an opt-out option for parents, some have raised concerns about the values of the professionals conducting the screenings and whether the focus on mental health could shift attention away from academics.
    Elementary & Secondary Education Related Bills:

    • HB3247 Passed House and Senate – Waiting for Governor’s signature or veto – Mandates free public schools for illegal immigrant children through the 12th grade. Prohibits public schools from cooperating with federal immigration officers. It allows for civil lawsuits brought to the courts by illegal aliens against schools that do not comply with this Act.
    LGBTQ Related Bills:

    • HB1083Passed House and Senate – Waiting for Governor’s signature or veto – Changes gender references to gender neutral descriptions in the Religious Freedom Protection Act, the Civil Unions Act, and the Rights of Married Persons Act.
    Religious Liberty Related Bills:

    • HB2589 Passed House and Senate – Waiting for Governor’s signature or veto – Requires a pharmacist to sell up to 100 hypodermic needles to a person 18 years of age; and allows a pharmacist to sell sterile syringes and needles to anyone who needs them for medication use.
